Welcome to Dame Catherine’s Nursery

Sensory and creative play

Sensory and Creative Play

High quality provision for 3-5 year olds.

We provide:

  • A caring, warm and friendly environment.
  • Morning and afternoon sessions.
  • A small group size of up to 8 children only.
  • We accept nursery vouchers.

Children at Dame Catherines Nursery are able to feel safe, secure, confident and happy, encouraging all-round development at each child’s own individual pace.

Children are encouraged to learn through carefully structured play, covering a wide variety of experiences in line with national guidelines for learning in the early years.

They are encouraged to make their own choices and decisions through the provision of free-play times.

We also encourage children to work in both small-group and whole-group activities, promoting language development and interaction with others.

Literacy skills are promoted through involvement with the Bookstart Book Crawl Scheme, in conjunction with the local library fostering links with the community.

At the end of their time at the nursery, children are well prepared for entry to school.

Learning about our local community

Learning about our Local Community

The nursery operates independently of Dame Catherine Harpur’s School – so there’s no obligation for children to take up places in the infant class when their time comes to start school – but nursery children do sometimes join in with the activities of the older children. For example, the nursery children contribute in the school circle time each week, and join in PE at the village hall. This encourages various areas of development, especially social skills and confidence.
